The 1st birthday is a HUGE milestone, not only for baby, but for parents as well! What better way to celebrate than a trip to my studio for portraits!

I love to bake, so naturally I include a smash cake in each of my 1st birthday sessions for those who choose to take advantage of it. I talk with parents ahead of time to plan the perfect little set to help commemorate the moment, right down to the frosting color, and let mom and dad know what they should bring along.

Some babies are timid about smashing into the cake and don’t enjoy having messy hands. But that is no reason to worry! We always end up with darling images! Hazel was not one of those babies! This girl thoroughly enjoyed smashing her cake to bits! It was so darling to watch and I can’t help but smile every time I catch a glimpse of the photographic proof!
